Grading

Please try to follow this because it can get a little confusing. So if you have any issues with understanding any of the following please, please, please ask.  With that note out of the way please look over carefully. Please understand that everything here is written as if you were earning one quill and at the Acceptable level.

Grading Scale: The Traditional OWL scale

90-100% O (Outstanding) or 5 Tasks Complete with 15 Posts* each

80-89% E (Exceeds Expectations) or 5 Tasks Complete with 10 Posts* each

70-79% A (Acceptable) or 5 Tasks Complete with 5 Posts* each

60-69% D (Dreadful) or Some task and essay done but not enough

0-59% T (Troll) or never show up.

As you can see above the scale is broke down for earning one quill for this class when in fact you can earn up to three in total.  That just means that if you want Three Quills that are Acceptable you need to triple the number of tasks.  So that would be fifteen tasks with at least five (5) posts in them.  If you want a higher grade you post more in each task.  For example you post five tasks with ten posts each you would get a single quill that is Exceeds Expectations. There is an exception to the five posts per topic so please look at the *A Post section of the grading.

A Task

A task is a job that comes off the task list or is assigned to you by a person working where you are interning. Each task should be outlined briefly for you.  If it is confusing or you don’t understand please ask for it to be cleared up for you.  You must post at least five times for a task to be considered complete.  There is an exception to the five post rule please see the *A Post section of the grading for that to be cleared up.

*A Post

For those who might not recall or might not have taken one of my other classes I consider a post to be a single paragraph that is five to six sentences or longer in length.  I call this a short post.  Below is a sample.

Sample Short Post:

Caro looked into the box that had been handed to her.  At first she was not sure what she was looking at.  It looked like a great deal of junk.  It was then that she realized it was muggle junk so the directions to sort it made sense.  Settling the box onto a nearby work station she began to pull pieces out.

Now for a task to be considered complete you have to post five of those, yes you can double post, to complete a task. Also to earn a higher grade you can post more per task.

The exception to the five posts per task rule is this.  You can post three long posts (two or more paragraphs) in place of the five short posts.  This means that you can have a task and post three times (yes you can double post) as long as the three posts are long posts.  Just so you can see below is a sample of a long post.

Sample Long Post:

Caro looked into the box that had been handed to her.  At first she was not sure what she was looking at.  It looked like a great deal of junk.  It was then that she realized it was muggle junk so the directions to sort it made sense.  Settling the box onto a nearby work station she began to pull pieces out.

The first piece Caro pulled out appeared to be a muggle toaster.  Setting it on the table she lifted the tag and read it a few times.  Yup, from the tag information it was a toast that had been collected on a raid.  Pulling the clipboard out of the box she copied the information from the tag such as case number, raid number, who collected it and things like that.  Once it was done she picked the toast up and placed it into a slot on the wall.  The final thing she jotted on the sheet about the toast was its placement on the wall.

You are not limited to just posting the two paragraphs but please note that there are only the two ways of counting and grading posts per tasks.  This means a task has to have either five short posts or three long posts in order to be considered Acceptable.  For a higher grade, or to earn an E, a task has to have ten short post or six long posts.  If you want O for a task you have to have fifteen short posts or nine long posts in order to earn it.

Other Ways to Earn a Higher Grade

Since I can understand that you don’t want to post in a task six to fifteen times in order to earn higher grades you can choose to complete more tasks.  So in order to earn three quills at an E level you would have to complete a total of twenty tasks that follow the directions under *A Post.  If you want them an O level then you have to complete twenty-five tasks that follow the directions under *A Post.

Another way to earn a higher grade is if you write up task summaries and post them in your journal.  Basically you write out a paragraph for each task explaining what you did and how it went.  If you do it for each task and each summary is at least a paragraph you will earn an E.  If you do it for each task and they are two or more paragraphs you can earn an O.

Grades Break Down

In case the above is still confusing here is an even simpler break down of how each task, topic, essay, summary and so on are weighted.

A task with five short posts = Acceptable (A)

A task with three long posts = Acceptable (A)

A task with ten short posts = Exceeds Expectation (E)

A task with six long posts = Exceeds Expectation (E)

A task with fifteen short posts = Outstanding (O)

A task with nine long posts = Outstanding (O)

A short summary = Exceeds Expectation

A long summary = Outstanding (O)

In the end the more you do the better your grade will be.  Any questions about this please check out the FAQs
